Which media formats does Net Publications Inc. accept?
NetPublications accepts files via CD-ROMs, DVD-ROMs, E-mail, FTP, and USB/Firewire drives.
If you wish to submit your files via FTP or E-mail, please either contact customer services, or make it clear on the order information you provide to us.
To submit files to our FTP site, please contact customer services, and they will provide you with a username, password, and your own directory on the FTP site.
Which file formats are preferred ?
NetPublications prefers black and white documents to be sent as PDF's; For files in color we prefer
files from desktop publishing software such as QuarkXpress or Adobe Pagemaker.
In which file format should I save my graphics ?
We reccommend saving all graphic files as TIFF or EPS files. Other graphic formats
such as JPG or GIF files were designed to compress graphics to be viewed over the internet; this may cause issues such as jobs failing to print, or images printing pixelated.
Also avoid placing a document within a document to serve as an image. It is far better
to convert the image you need to a TIFF or EPS before placing it into your application file.
At what resolution should I save my graphics ?
For all graphics files we recommend saving at 300dpi resolution. Any higher and the job make
take longer to process in our workflow, any lower and your image may appear pixelated.
Why shouldn't I use Microsoft Office to create my files?
Microsoft Office files such as MS Word and PowerPoint create the most issues in our
job flow, primarily because they were designed to reflow their text to fit the printer
to which they are being sent. They were also only designed to either be printed on a small
desktop printer, or be viewed on a computer screen. The color in Office
documents is created from three colors (RGB - Red, Green, Blue), when printed to a commercial
printer, the office document converts its colors into a four color process (CMYK - Cyan,
Magenta, Yellow, Black) but this often does not match the color correctly, and it is not
possible to adjust the colors to perfect the match.
How do I calculate the width of my document's spine ?
Our main two stocks are 50# and 60# offset, which have a PPI of 520 and 444 respectively.
To calculate your spine size, please follow this formula:
- Divide your page count by the PPI
- Multiply the above result by 16
- The final figure is your spine size in 16th of an inch (X/16")
How can I avoid the most common issues with file submissions ?
You can avoid the most common issues with file submission by remembering to:
- Include all fonts used in your application files
- Include all images used in your application files
- Embed all fonts in your PDF files
Include only the files necessary for us to print your job.
Go to NetPublications Inc. Customer Service Center to obtain our Submission Checklist, a simple way to make sure
your submission completed properly.
Are there any other issues of which I should be aware ?
Most of our printed jobs, unless they are being output to film, are converted
to some type of postscript file before printing. It is important therefore to
remember that if you are using a desktop application such as Word, Quark, Pagemaker
etc. and you wish to make a word or sentance Bold/Italic/etc., to use the actual
Bold/Italic/etc. version of the font, instead of using the Bold/Italic/etc. button
in the application. The reason behind this is that when your document is made into
a postscript file, only the font information is retained, the application affect
of bold/italic/etc. will likely be lost.
